Meet Hannah Miles, our resident paper artist and founder of Utensils0. Hannah has worked on promotional material, social media campaigns, and paper animations, alongside her own artwork. You can see her love of vintage design and all things quintessentially British shine through her gorgeous paper artwork.
We chatted the other day about her top crafting tips and inspiration - here are a few snippets:
How do you find inspiration?
I horde vintage reference books and visit a lot of natural history museums and collections. Also I love to have long walks around London where I can happen upon real life inspiration.
Can you give your top 3 DIY tips to new crafters?
- Don't put too much pressure on the first attempt being amazing, just have fun trying something new.
- Use every opportunity to practice, I made everyone’s birthday cards for the whole year to improve with each one.
- Be social! The amount of tips and tricks I have learnt from other crafters has been invaluable.
What craft skill would you like to learn?
I'd love to learn how to Crochet, Dress making and Calligraphy
What’s the oddest thing that you have ever made?
I think that would have to be the 3D paper model of my Dad I made for Father's Day last year!
Why do you enjoy hosting workshops?
I love how creative everyone’s outcome is when I teach, even though I have the example each person’s work is completely personal and they come up with ways to use the materials and techniques that I would never have thought of!
