Try Acid Glass Etching

Ready to experiment with acid? Come and learn the technique of acid etching onto glass with us. You’ll find out how to use acid to safely etch your designs into the surface of your glass, using techniques that you can repeat at home. We’ll give you a choice of glass tumblers and a bottle to work on as well as some test glass to practise on. Choose from our range of templates, create your own designs or use our carefully chosen font template to make words.

Glass etching is a great way to create really unusual and super impressive gifts. If you've ever made sloe gin or jam to give away, you can make personalised bottles and jars to go with them. Give a unique wedding gift of a glass lantern etched with the couple's names, or make a sweet Mother's Day gesture by etching hearts on mum's mirror.

Over two hours, Sonia will show you how to permanently etch your images and words to glass. Unlike paint, acid chemically alters the surface of the glass so your designs can’t scratch or wash off. Once you’ve learned how, you can work on any glass or mirror surface other than some Pyrex surfaces.

This technique does use tiny quantities of acid, but don’t worry you’re not in danger as we’ll make sure you have gloves and glasses to keep it off you.

This is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon - you'll learn something new, make something gorgeous and we're delighted that our lovely hosts the Proud Archivist are offering a complementary Bloody Mary or hot drink with your ticket.
